My walk to work

It's not the weather for riding in a fixie with road-race clearances and 23mm tyres so I'm walking. It has its compensations: more relaxed and more time to look at the world go by. I don't think I'll keep it up when the snow melts though :)

One advantage of this time of year and my current early starts is that I get to ride to work in nice light. Can't go wrong.

Only tricky bit here was that after taking the picture I had to cycle through this lot on my fixie with the 23mm (very skinny) tyres. Good practice in commitment!

It was fecking freezing though.

Music has a bigger problem, it's that people want to make it. It's the peacocks tail. The reason guys make music is that they want to get laid. So men are usually willing to pay a lot of money in the hope of getting laid. Anything that helps you get laid with amazing regularity is something you would expect a tremendous oversupply of. So we have unbelievable amounts of music.

People pay a lot to learn how to play music and it's ridiculous to expect people to make money off it. Normally if you want to make money you do something no one wants to do.

Away at a conference with the most un-academic back drops ever.

The rooms in Clare College Cambridge knock Goodricke/Vanburgh for, oh, about a million. Two bedroom suite, comfy chairs, internet. I was tempted to not bother leaving to go to the conference, but the walk to breakfast was certainly worth leaving for

I also have to confess that I've finally seen the point of twitter. When you're at a conference, and people are putting out stuff being able to see a live feed filtered by the conference tag makes for a good way for finding out what's going on and for quick feedback. Makes the Guardian's move make more sense. Please note however that this is not a call for people to import their twitterings into LJ. That's still annoying.
